Make page cues easier to see and understand

Practical checks for the size, contrast and placement of a classroom number display.

Stand at the back of the room and check the actual display. A number that looks large on a phone may still be hard to read across a classroom. Use a clear font and leave enough space around the digits.

Choose a strong contrast between the number and its background. Check it under the lighting you will use, including daylight on the screen. Explain the cue verbally rather than communicating only through colour.

Keep the displayed number stable long enough for pupils to act on it. If you use SendNumber on several screens, check that every screen has joined the intended session before starting the activity.

Ask the group whether the cue is readable. A visible page number supports spoken instructions and accessible learning materials; it does not replace those materials or individual support.
